Meet the Practice

David Weidenborner, LMHC. Psychotherapist and Owner.

David Weidenborner, LMHC

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has been providing psychotherapy since 2017. Graduating from St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY with a MS degree in Mental Health Counseling was the starting point in my career as a therapist. Since then, I have worked with people from all walks of life across the in both New York and Washington.

I have extensive experience working with individuals with anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorders, relationship issues, and many other concerns. Using an eclectic style of therapy, I pull from different approaches to meet the needs and goals of each person. Several therapies I gravitate toward, including; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Humanistic Therapy, and Existential Therapy; focus on open-ended discussions and encourage abstract thinking to shift perspectives or re-conceptualize difficult past events. In other instances, I may use a more structured approach using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to organize and track thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so we can better understand their interconnectedness to alleviate negative thoughts and emotions while increasing healthy behaviors. Mindfulness, whether through meditation or other methods, is something I frequently integrate into many of these therapeutic styles. Underlying any approach is a culturally competent foundation of empathetic support.

Being my authentic self in session is the only way I know how to provide therapy. My passion for therapy comes from my early career experience in journalism and teaching. The combination of communication skills with a desire to improve others’ lives inevitably led me to counseling. In session, you will have a safe place to process and learn how to cope with what is happening outside of session. You will be supported unconditionally. This includes being given hard truths and tough love. In addition to specific forms of therapy, I will relate to situations using literary references, philosophic asides, and historic parallels. There are countless experiences across human history to compare and contrast to our own and it would be a shame to not learn from them.
